This blog post is sponsored by LEGO. All opinions are my own

Choosing a gift for your child is not an easy task if you want to make it right. Do you go with what they want, what they need, or what is popular now? Which one to choose: educational, practical, or just fun? What should the budget be, especially if you have more than one or two? It probably deserves a separate blog on itself. Still, there is one gift that is almost every child will be happy to get – LEGO! An iconic brand that millions have been playing with for many years! My parents still have boxes of LEGO bricks that I have played as a child, and now my nieces enjoy just as much.

As a designer myself, I want to encourage creative, outside of the box thinking in my kids from an early age. Instead of video games or screen time, I love to see my kids building with LEGO and then coming up with scenarios around it and playing with it.

If you are not yet convinced, just look at the list of the benefits of children playing with LEGO:

  • Helps small kids to learn colors & shapes and improve fine motor skills
  • Enroots in kids the ability to visualize and develops necessary imaginative skills
  • Helps to socialize when they play with other people
  • Improves patience & focus
  • Advances understanding of structure & following instructions
  • Encourages creativity
  • Reason & problem solve in older kids

I am sure I missed something here, but that should be enough to put LEGO on your holiday gift list this year. Depending on the child, we usually choose from a few categories: LEGO Classic, LEGO Friends, LEGO City, and LEGO Creator that has options for all. Here are a few options that I would recommend to consider this year:

CITY Town Ski Resort

Unless you live in Canada, you’re probably “dreaming of a white Christmas” so the ski resort fits into the winter theme perfectly! The set includes two buildings, several vehicles, and many mini-figures, so it will be fun to play for multiple at a time.

Creator 3-in-1 Townhouse Pet Shop & Café

This set is a recent hit with my daughters as they enjoy coming up with stories and situations around taking care of pets and drinking coffee at the coffee shop. With three variations, you can build it into and a few different builds and they won’t get bored with it.

Classic Large Creative Brick Box

I knew we needed to get this set because it allows for free-building. Everybody was building houses and essential materials for walls, etc. we were running out fast. To my surprise, inside the box was an instruction book with directions for small, simple but very creative objects and animals that could be built from the parts in the box!

LEGO is my go-to idea for quality time with any of the kids. It gives a perfect opportunity to be calm and allows kids to feel connected. This benefit on it’s own is worth a lot, so I hope you and your kids will have some one-on-one building time this holiday season!

All of the items mentioned above are currently available at Target, so you can go and see it before purchasing!
